Inaugural MAP event draws huge crowd

The inaugural meeting (10/30/14) of the Georgetown University chapter of Minorities and Philosophy featured a screening of “Fruitvale Station,” a film about the shooting of Oscar Grant by a San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit policeman on New Year’s Day, 2009. The film stars Michael B. Jordan (previously of “The Wire” fame). After the screening, there was a short discussion focused on some of the philosophical questions that arise in the context of the film, including how to analyze responsibility for the actions of the policeman and the creation of the context in which such a horrific event could occur.
Students who are interested in MAP may contact the GU chapter’s coordinator, Nabina Liebow (a PhD candidate in philosophy).
