Gallegos Wins Ford Foundation Fellowship
Francisco Gallegos, a doctoral student in the Philosophy Department, has won a Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellowship for the 2016–17 academic year. The fellowship is awarded to members of ethnic or racial minority groups who show both great scholarly promise and whose research and/or pedagogy contribute to either or both the diversification of the scholars’ fields or educational outreach to students of diverse backgrounds. Francisco is writing his doctoral dissertation on a phenomenological account of mood, including a development of the work of the Mexican phenomenologist Jorge Portilla. Francisco has played a central role in the founding of Georgetown’s chapter of Minorities and Philosophy, and in his teaching he incorporates philosophy that has emerged from the Latin American intellectual community.
