Dual MD Program

This dual degree program offered through Georgetown University School of Medicine and the Department of Philosophy allows students to pursue either an MA or PhD in philosophy while earning an MD. The program is only available to students pursuing their medical degree at the Georgetown Medical School. Students wishing to apply to the dual degree program should consult the Medical School’s admissions page for information about applying to the MD program. The Philosophy curriculum and requirements include:

• 45 credits in philosophy required for the PhD
• 30 credits for the MA or 24 credits with a master’s thesis

Up to nine credits for medical school courses may also be counted towards the PhD in philosophy, up to six credits towards the MA. For more information about the requirements for the MA and PhD in Philosophy, see the Philosophy Department’s Graduate Handbook.
